Final Process - NGC7000 3x3 Mosaic (Ha Only)

This is the largest mosaic I ever done - the size of the final image is 8489 × 6123.

NGC7000 is a large target and took me 15 nights (48hr) to collect enough data from my Fremont backyard. Required 3x3 mosaic to cover this...

2017 New Year Project -- "Portable Observatory"

Want to do something like this for a long long time. Having two young kids really limits my go-out-to-do-imaging time. People said having a semi-permanent setup is the next best thing to an observatory. So I pull the trigger... !!

I really should do this earlier !!!

Take me 5 min to setup and 5 min to tear down.
Although I have very limited sky in my backyard, I think I am going get a lot of subs this year.

365 cover ...

Very limited sky ...

7/4/2016 BLM - Imaging Veil Ha 4hr

Consider this is my first official night out to image with my CCD. Joined 3 other friends and do an all nigh imaging. The image above is not fully processed yet, will need more NB data. 12 sub, 1200sec each with 7nm Ha filter.

BLM is kind of in the middle of nowhere ...

A couple images of our setups...

There are some bullets on the ground... kind of scary...

Still learning SGP

Jing Wee took several very amazing Milky Way images for me !!

First Time at Montebello (M101)

First time to try this local site (Montebello) close to Stanford. About 45min door-to-door from my house. (http://old.observers.org/sites/) The site is not as dark as BLM but it is good enough for me. I decide to go this place more often for narrow-band imaging.

Spent most of the time testing the FSQ-85 + STT-8300. Still struggle on the SGP auto focusing.
The star shape at the corners are not perfect too. This makes me thinking to upgrade to FSQ-106...

Below is one shot of 30min Ha of M101.

First Narrow Band CCD Experience

Acquired my CCD (SBIG STT-8300) used for a long time but didn't get chance to use it.
This is actually a new unit from AstroMart.

Setup at the evening after watching StarWar with wife...

The OAG of STT-8300 is really stupid. It shares the same USB port with the main CCD so there are a lot of problems. I hate those workaround. Some problems shows here:

I only get one 30min Ha sub and it is getting really cold (0-C).
I decided to back inside and do some adjustment on the gears.

Here is the quick process of the single-frame with 30 dark subs...
I think I like NB !! ;-)
